Description
This hand-carved, 19th century-style, bed prototype
evokes a bygone era when European craftsman came to
the U.S. seeking a better life. Commissioned by Ralph
Lauren Home Furnishings and Henredon Furniture Company,
Hulley Woodworking fabricated this bed for the April
1996 High Point, NC Furniture Market. One of only
two beds produced, this queen-sized prototype was
eventually destroyed when it was cut into pieces to
be used as the carving model for a production run
of the bed. Though ultimately the bed was never mass-produced,
another prototype -- a king-sized version, was sold
to a private individual and is the only copy left
in existence.
