Description
This piece was crafted in the style of the 20th century
architects, brothers Charles Sumner Greene and Henry
Mather Greene, who were architects of the David B.
Gamble House in Pasadena, California. Working from
published photos of furniture designed for the Gamble
House, we designed our own version of an existing
piece, as part of our "Arts & Crafts Furniture
Collection". True to the original design, we
crafted this piece out of solid Honduras mahogany,
using authentic joinery techniques and completing
the details with solid Gaboon ebony inlays. The design,
of course, is our own, although it is very strongly
influenced by the work of the Green brothers, who
took Arts & Crafts design to a new level, softening
the somewhat harsh lines and adding an oriental influence..
The shape of the legs at the bottom, the framing of
the recessed top and backsplash, and the door and
drawer details vary substantially from the original.
The one true concession to modernity are the doors
that open to reveal interior drawers which are fitted
to house CDs.
